Questions Are Normal

Reaching out for therapy or coaching often comes with uncertainty.

Many people are interested in support but still have practical questions, hesitations, or concerns before taking the first step.

We’ve gathered answers to the questions we hear most often.

Getting Started

How do I get started?

The easiest way to begin is to contact Praxis through our consultation form. We’ll learn a bit about what you’re looking for and help guide you toward the right therapist or coach.

What happens after I reach out?

We’ll follow up to learn more about your goals, answer questions, discuss availability, and help match you with the right provider.

Do you offer free consultations?

Yes. Praxis offers a no obligation consultation to help determine fit, answer questions, and discuss next steps. After the consultation, if it is not a good fit, we will recommend a quality referral based off what we learned about you and waive the fee for that session. If it is a good fit and we plan to proceed forward, we will bill you on the second session for both the consultation and the second session. Nobody should pay to see if they are a good fit with their therapist.

How soon can I start?

Availability varies by clinician and season. Contact us for current openings and we’ll help you explore the best options.

What if I’m not sure who I should work with?

That’s common. You do not need to know that in advance. We’ll help connect you with the best fit based on your goals and needs.

Therapy Questions

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy may be helpful if anxiety, stress, relationship issues, emotional pain, past experiences, or recurring patterns are impacting your life.

You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.

What if I’ve never done therapy before?

That’s completely normal. Many clients begin therapy unsure what to expect. You do not need to know exactly what to say or have everything figured out before starting.

What happens in the first therapy session?

The first session typically focuses on understanding what brings you in, what goals you have, relevant history, and determining whether the relationship feels like a good fit.

What if I don’t know what to talk about?

That is more common than you may think. A good therapist can help you begin wherever you are.

Do high-functioning people still benefit from therapy?

Absolutely. Many successful and capable people seek therapy for stress, relationship health, identity clarity, emotional growth, or deeper fulfillment.

Men’s Therapy Questions

Do men actually benefit from therapy?

Yes. Many men benefit greatly from therapy, especially when the work is practical, honest, and relevant to real life challenges.

What if I’m not good at talking about feelings?

You do not need to arrive emotionally articulate. Therapy can help build language, awareness, and confidence over time.

Is therapy only for crisis?

No. Many men seek therapy for growth, relationships, fatherhood, leadership stress, or preventing future problems.

Couple’s Therapy Questions

Do both partners need to be fully on board?

Not always. It helps when both people are willing to participate honestly, even if one partner is more skeptical at first.

Can couples therapy help if we keep having the same fight?

Yes. Repetitive conflict often points to deeper patterns that can be understood and changed.

Can couples therapy help after trust has been damaged?

Often, yes. Rebuilding trust takes honesty, structure, and sustained effort, but healing is possible for many couples

Coaching Questions

What is the difference between therapy and coaching?

Therapy focuses more on healing emotional pain, mental health concerns, trauma, and recurring patterns.

Coaching focuses more on growth, direction, accountability, leadership, and intentional forward movement.

Can I do coaching instead of therapy?

Sometimes. It depends on your needs and goals. If emotional distress or mental health concerns are significant, therapy may be the better fit.

Can I do both therapy and coaching?

In some situations, yes. We can help determine what combination makes sense.

Is coaching confidential?

Yes. Coaching conversations are handled with professionalism and discretion, though coaching differs legally and clinically from psychotherapy.
